Philosophy

I love beautiful clothes that are intelligent, versatile and wearable.  I think a great designer is not necessarily the most outrageous, but the one most loved by her customer.  I value fit, contrast and detail; and I expect fashion to demand a conversation between our eyes and our brain.

Our eyes see the beauty in a gown, but as modern consumers we need more.  We need to know that in an age where you can get almost anything at almost any price, that all these things matter and are significant in some way.  As consumers we are checking labels, fibers and countries of origins and researching the impact of our purchases.  We want to not only like the product, but like what we are contributing to and supporting as well. 

I know we are all looking to contribute to something more beautiful.  I want you to know how committed I am to these ideals.  In addition to the environmentally-friendly office & business practices at maude couture, our mission is to produce clothes in a responsible manner that respects the earth and human dignity.  It is our mission to manufacture in the United States, pay fair prices and support our citizens and economy as much as humanly possible.  Wherever possible, maude uses fabrics and trims made from sustainable fibers and practices such as bamboo, hemp, organic cotton and wool as well as reclaimed and recycled fabrics.   In our efforts to minimize our global footprint, we will conserve resources though making all of our dresses to order and therefore carrying as little inventory (and preventing wasteful excess) as possible.  Naturally, we use only recycled & reusable products, paper and procedures wherever possible and reuse our resources to the best of our ability.  It is our mission to remain on the cutting edge of responsible business practices.
